As part of the University of Western Australia's commitment to recognising, promoting and rewarding graduate research excellence, the Graduate Research School is making available additional funds to support higher degree by research students in their degree program.
This new funding scheme is open to all enrolled PhD and Masters by Research candidates who have received Confirmation of Candidature, and who have been deemed to be making satisfactory progress as indicated in their latest Annual Progress Report. The funds allocated under the UWA Grants for Research Student Training (GRST) are awarded over and above what is normally provided by a school.
Submissions for the second round of the GRST will close on 30th September 2008.

The prize winners in the Higher Degree by Research Achievements for 2008 have now been announced.

Final-year PhD student Clare Berry won an award for a presentation she gave at the Australian Society for Medical Research WA symposia.
Clare was awarded the WA Institute for Medical Research prize and $1000 presented by WAIMR director Professor Peter Klinken at the annual ASMR Medical Research Week® Gala Dinner at the Perth Exhibition and Convention Centre on 6 June 2008.
Clare was one of 120 postgraduate and early career scientists to present recent findings at the symposia, and one of 17 to receive an award.
Effective from 1 January 2009, commencement of postgraduate research study at UWA will require an IELTS (or the equivalent) overall score no lower than 6.5, with scores no lower than 6.0 for speaking and listening, and no lower than 6.5 for reading and writing.
Australian Government visa regulations, and some courses, require higher scores for applicants from some countries.
