'Energetic' doesn't even begin to describe Ian Constable; his passion, enthusiasm and drive for his work have seen him labelled as unstoppable.
From humble beginnings in a single room with one researcher in 1975, Professor Ian Constable has made the Lions Eye Institute in Perth into the largest research centre of its kind in the southern hemisphere with a reputation to meet its size.
The Centre has made many ground breaking discoveries and developments, including the LEI artificial cornea which is granting sight to people around the world. Constable is also the Foundation Professor of Ophthalmology Services at UWA as well as chair of the WA Science Council.
As a sign of his achievements and the impact he has made upon Australia he received the 2006 Anzac Peace Prize from the RSL. Perhaps most surprisingly he is also a working doctor and surgeon, continuing to return sight to patients on a weekly basis.
Aside from being a committed physician and researcher he also has an interest in classic cars, restoring a 1949 MG and a 1959 Mercedes himself.
As a former board member of the Art Gallery of WA, he also has a keen interest in art, with his own collection holding numerous pieces by indigenous artists.
With all these achievements Professor Ian Constable shows no signs of slowing down, constantly striving to achieve more and strive higher in all his areas of interest.
