Winthrop Professor DâArcy Holmanâs career has revolved around public health.
It is thanks to the efforts of people like this Winthrop Professor that Australia is able to prepare itself to deal adequately with the health issues of the future, such as the aging population, which is the focus of his most recent research.
His background in both academia and public administration gives Holman a unique insight into the workings of the public health system and how best to carry out his work and research. Holmanâs research is respected and known for its high standards, a fact that has seen him receive great recognition; from 1996-2002 he was the inaugural Director of the Centre for Health Services Research and currently holds the Foundation Chair for Public Health at UWA, and he is also an expert advisor to organizations and the government.
In 2005 the Winthrop Professor received a grant from the Australian Government to investigate âthe current epidemic of hospitalisation of Australians older than 65 due to side effects of their medicationsâ as well as a million dollar grant to look at other age related issues.
