Professor David Plowman

David Plowman is a Winthrop Professor in The Graduate School of Management, where he was the Foundation Director for several years.

He joined UWA after nearly three years teaching industrial relations at the University of South Australia and a further 17 years at the University of New South Wales Prior to his academic career, Winthrop Professor Plowman worked in the area of human resource management.

Winthrop Professor Plowman has taught extensively at Australian and overseas universities. He has been a Visiting Professor at American and European institutions. For ten years, he was the Australian academic Liaison Officer with the Japan Institute of Labour.

In 1994 Winthrop Professor Plowman was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia He writes in the areas of wage determination, employer associations and Australian industrial relations.

Winthrop Professor Plowman has consulted widely. He was a consultant to the Australian Government's Green Paper on Workers' Participation/Industrial Democracy. In 1995 he was commissioned by the Western Australian Government to report on the method of defining, determining and adjusting the State's Minimum Wage under the Minimum Conditions of Employment Act. His report was presented to Parliament and formed the basis of the State's system of minimum wage determination.
