Professor Peter Sly

  Professor Peter Sly

Asthma is so common for Australians that often it seems forgotten that it is a serious condition and, in some cases, can prove fatal.

Professor of Paediatrics and Head of Clinical Sciences at the TVW Telethon Institute for Child Health Research, Peter Sly has spent his life researching childhood respiratory conditions.

In 2003 his extensive efforts were acknowledged by the academic community when he was awarded a Doctor of Science. Receiving a five year multi-million dollar research grant from the National Health and Medical Research Council in 2001, Professor Sly’s high standard and innovative work receives continuing praise from the community and the government.

His research has helped great advances be made in the identification, prevention and treatment of asthma in children as well as develop new methods for measuring lung function in infants and very young children.

Interested in all inflammatory lung diseases, it is thanks to the Professor’s efforts that parents of young children with respiratory problems can better help their children breath easily.
