Grants for research student training

All applications that have the potential to add value to a students research will be considered.

Senior academic and research services administrative staff will evaluate submissions.

Funds allocated under the scheme are awarded over and above what is normally provided by a school.

Allocation is independent of whether a student has accessed the Graduate Research Candidate Travel Award.

Extra funds are available to support higher degree by research students under the Grants for Research Student Training (GRST) scheme.

The scheme is open to PhD and masters by research students who have:

In 2009, no awards will be made under the Grants for Research Student Training scheme. The information on this page is maintained as a reference.

What you need to know

You should be aware that:

  • grants awarded will be $5000 or less per application
  • you can only submit one application per selection round
  • funds must be spent within 12 months
  • you must comply with reporting requirements, such as providing receipts.

What you can purchase

Among other things, funding can be used for:

  • research training and education
  • professional development
  • computers, software and books
  • research-related travel to the field or to conferences.  

Who can't apply

Students not eligible include those undertaking:

  • professional doctorates
  • masters by thesis and coursework.

Closing date

Applications closed on 30th September 2008.

No awards will be made in 2009.

Submit a small grants application outlining how you intend to spend the funds, justifying your need for resources.
