If you are a UWA Higher Degree by Research candidate and you have not yet been awarded the degree for which you applied, you can be considered for a 'Change of course' (upgrade or downgrade) upon application.
All candidates applying to upgrade will be treated as new applicants. The outcome of your application will be communicated to you, within 6 weeks of receipt.
Change of course (upgrade)
If you are a UWA student enrolled in a Master of Philosophy (MPhil), you may apply for an upgrade to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
- Normally an application to upgrade is lodged 6-12 months after commencement but an application may be lodged at any time during a MPhil candidature
- If your application is successful any candidature time consumed in the MPhil course will be included as part of the maximum candidature time (four years full-time equivalent) of the PhD
- All students applying to upgrade will be treated as new applicants and will need to include details of the revised research proposal.
- MPhil students who wish to upgrade to a PhD candidature should discuss the appropriateness of this action with their supervisory team, before submitting an application via HDRhub.
Change of course (downgrade)
If you are a UWA student enrolled in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), you can apply to a downgrade to a Master of Philosophy (MPhil).
- PhD students who wish to downgrade to a MPhil candidature should discuss the appropriateness of this action with their supervisory team, before submitting an application via HDRhub.
